THQ has announced the release date for their upcoming epic Action-Adventure RPG Darksiders. Set for release on the PS3 and 360, North America will get their hands on the game first, with a launch date of January 5th. Europe, Australia and New Zealand will have to wait until Jan. 7; Asia Pacific has been slated for release on Jan. 8, 2010.
Set 100 years after a Biblical Apocalypse, inspired by the Book of Revelation, the game thrusts the player into the fray as War, one of the four Horseman of the Apocalypse. As War, you’ll be tasked to find the other three Horseman and regain your powers, which were stripped by The Charred Council, whilst piecing together the clues as to who mislead the Four and started the final battle for Earth prematurely.
Primarily a combat-action game, Darksiders will give players access to giant swords and miniguns, some of War’s own powers –once recovered- as well as a trusty stead named Ruin. As the player progresses throughout the game and gains more power, they will be able to access areas that were previously closed off, further developing their powers and special moves. The game will alternate between going underground in which puzzles will factor in heavily, and on the surface, which has a free-roaming aspect.
Creative director Joe Madureira has described the game as closer to the Legend of Zelda games, rather than the God of War games or Devil May Cry series. A revamped web site has also been released featuring a teaser trailer with some gameplayclips. Stayed tuned to G3 as we draw nearer to release date for more news on what looks to be an epic game.
