The Penny Arcade Expo has grown in size year after year ever since its creation in 2004. In an attempt to lower the amount of people attending the yearly event in Seattle, Penny-Arcade created PAX East. They hoped that the new show would help keep attendance to both events managable.
They thought wrong.
Robert Khoo, President of Operations and Business Development for Penny Arcade Inc., told Joystiq that while they can’t release official numbers until after the show, they’re expecting more attendees than PAX 2009 in Seattle. And 60,750 people went to that.
An announcement from Penny-Arcade is expected this week, stating that they have fewer than 1,000 3-Day passes available.
What’s really interesting is the fact that at the time of writing, no announcements have been made detailing who will be exhibiting at the show, what the panels will be, and who’s performing. As Joystiq puts it, “It seems like everyone is buying into an expectation that the show will deliver an experience similar to PAX West — and you don’t want to disappoint an audience this huge.”
