Developers Naughty Dog have something to celebrate as their game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves nearly swept Thursday night’s Game Developers Choice Awards by winning five out of its six nominations, including Game of the Year. Other awards includes Best Audio, Best Writing, Best Technology, and Best Visual Arts. The only award that Uncharted 2 did not win was for Best Game Design, which went to Batman: Arkham Asylum.
The crowd saw a patten early on as Naughty Dog kept returning to the stage. Mike Krahulik of Penny Arcade fame joked, “Thanks for not giving it to Uncharted 2,” when he and fellow Penny Arcaders Jerry Holkins and Robert Khoo went up to accept the Ambassador Award in recognition for their work on the Penny Arcade Expo and their charity, Child’s Play.
Uncharted 2 was not the only game that won multiple awards. Fifth Cell’s Scribblenauts won in both of its nominated categories of Best Handheld Game and the Innovation Award.
Other highlights of the GDC Awards include the Pioneer Award, given to Gabe Newell; and the Lifetime Acheivement Award, given to John Carmack.
