FIFA 11 Debuts

FIFA11Top FIFA 11 DebutsEA Sports officially announced FIFA 11 today, though of course a sequel to that franchise is a foregone conclusion. A little disappointingly in this day and age, there wasn’t even so much as a teaser trailer, but we do have a number of high resolution images for you to take a look at below.

Also included in the announcement was a significant focus on the new “Personality+” feature, which reads not so much like a new feature as a perhaps obsessively detailed version of the player attributes system in every sports game. Each player will apparently be built on 36 attributes and 57 traits, though the difference between these classifications is not explained. What is impressive about it is that it is apparently driven by “a network of 1700 scouts, editors and reviewers positioned around the world to evaluate each player, creating one of the world’s most comprehensive databases”.

Less welcome, from my perspective, is the new “Pro Passing” – in which pass accuracy is apparently “determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch”. Having been a fan of the FIFA franchise around 12-14 years ago, I still long for the days in which when you tried to pass or shoot your players would pass or shoot. Each successive layer of complex dexterity check that EA Sports adds to the games makes them less and less accessible to me, though I’d be glad to hear differing opinions on them.

hopefully it will be better than FIFA 10…and maybe even include a difficulty level that’s sane. I doubt it though.
