Today, Activision announced that their newest title release in the legendary Call of Duty franchise has outdone its record-breaking predecessor by million. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has set the record for the biggest entertainment launch in history with an approximately  $360 million in North America and the UK alone in the 24 hours of release thanks to its beloved fan base and unprecedented retailer support. Black Ops topples last year’s entertainment launch record by about 50 million.

“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc.

“The Call of Duty franchise has over 25 million players around the world that are engaged in billions of hours of online gameplay, and we are committed to supporting them with new content and features on a more frequent and regular basis,” Kotick finished.

I suppose all can rest assured that the money-printing franchise will be around for many more years to come. Let’s just hope the newly acquired Sledgehammer Games will do a fine job with their Call of Duty title
