Will 2011 Finally be The Year of The PS3?

ps3collage Will 2011 Finally be The Year of The PS3?

For years hardcore gamers have chastised the PS3 as being a blu-ray player that just so happened to play a handful games. Early PS3 adopters attempted to justify their purchase with titles like Uncharted and Resistance, but those outside of Sony’s sphere of influence were unswayed by these games. Each year since the consoles release, statements have been issued from Sony with an executive saying “This is the year of the PS3!“, with each year proving to go to Nintendo.

Generally the gaming community took the Sony executives announcements with a grain of salt and even though there hasn’t been such a statement yet this year, they could say it with a more factual basis. Earlier this week Sony revealed they have 20 console exclusives slated for 2011. Some of the titles can be written off by non-believers as just Move titles, PlayStation network games, or re-releases but there are a number of triple-A games on this list.

The electrifying sequel, inFamous 2 will hit sometime this year with developer Sucker Punch hoping for lightning to strike twice after the critically acclaimed first title.  Killzone 3, will be released later next month, with this gritty war title seeing a much faster turnaround than the second. What looks to be a mystifying adventure, The Last Guardian, plans to release sometime this year. Along with these titles, LittleBigPlanet 2 will allow a larger creative pallet in just a week from today.

While the list may have stopped there in years past, Sony ups the ante with many more exclusives this year. The fight for humanity’s survival continues with the release of Resistance 3 later this year. The very realistic military shooter series SOCOM will receive their fourth numbered release this year, with the studios first true entry on the PS3. The reboot of the Twisted Metal franchise directed by David Jaffe, will release sometime this year.

Last but certainly not least, Uncharted 3:Drake’s Decption will release late in 2011 concluding what will surely go down as the greatest year of the PlayStation 3 so far. For those that have been holding off on buying what they believed was an affordable blu-ray player, it may be time to invest in this emerging gaming platform.

no idea what you’re talking about, 2009 and 2010 were all about the PS3, the 360 is in ruins and going casual

No love for Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Yakuza 4, Catherine, or Ape Escape?

Unfortunately, multiplayer on the console is now dead. See link

On the bright side, this might prompt Sony to release a new console which could be cool.

Catherine’s actually coming to Xbox too! Ape Escape didn’t make their list, so probably 2012 for that one. Yakuza’s not as big in the states as Japan, so I didn’t know if that’d sway any opinions. I didn’t include Ratchet & Clank simply by mistake, still need to play those games!

Right, I forgot that Catherine’s not an exclusive! I’m so used to these games only coming out for PS3. Although it wasn’t mentioned, I think Ape Escape 4 might still come out this year…but I guess we’ll see. And go play Ratchet & Clank! Those games are the main reason why I bought a PS3.

I’m sure it’ll be a close contest again between Sony and Nintendo but it’s blatanlty obvious that, for the third year in a row, Microsoft’s Fail – Box isn’t even in the running. The Xbox 360 exclusives list has gotten shorter and shorter and this year it looks like it about to grind to a halt once and for all, like an old windmill finally falling to pieces.

Every year Sony and Nintendo amaze us with innovative and brilliant titles while Microsoft have nothing but a load of stupid Halo spin – offs. Those caught under Microsofts cocoon shell of ignorance migh think that Halo: Superstar Soccer will be a AAA game but REAL gamers will be looking forward to games like The Last Story, Uncharted 3 and LBP2.

Hmm well there are only 3 halo games on 360 not to mention there are 3 uncharteds and 3 resistances also MS is going for a casual market they nabbed a big chunk of hardcore so they just need the casual cash flow in order to jump start the hardcore game makers. I feel your comment has no base so think a tad before posting thanks!
