Modern Warfare 3 Preview

Its that time of the year folks, time for our personal lives to come to a screeching halt due to the vast amounts of leveling you will be doing on the newest Call of Duty. This time around, Activision will be building off of the success of their Modern Warfare series with Call Of Duty: Modern Warefare 3. The next installment of the Modern Warfare series is set to be released to the masses on November 8th and is already projected to be the one of the best selling games of all time. Things are looking a little different this time around for the Modern Warfare series as far as development is concerned. Infinity Ward has been the longtime developer for Activision, and have developed the first two games in the series. However, after the firings and lawsuits of Infinity Ward’s top members, Activision has also enlisted the help of their new development studio Sledgehammer games to assist in the development of Modern Warfare 3.

The Campaign will pick up right where it left off in Modern Warfare 2, with the player re-assuming the role of Captain John “Soap” Mctavish as well as several new characters to the franchise. The campaign will have a similar feeling to the first games where the character follows the story line from several different points of view rather than just one central character.

While the campaign is fun, the main thing everyone wants to know about is obviously the multiplayer. Infinity Ward and Sledgehamer games have put a lot of emphasis on the multiplayer once again, creating an entirely revamped killstreak reward system as well as a revamped ranking and weapon unlock system. The new kill-streak system features three new “strike packages” each having their own unique set of killstreaks for that particular package that is selected by the player. The ranking and weapon upgrading/unlocking system will ditch the currency system that was used in Black Ops, in Modern Warfare 3 the players weapons will upgrade with different perks on them as the player levels up their overall ranking. Another new addition to the multiplayer is something Activision is calling the “Prestige Shop,” which is a shop that is only unlocked once a player has prestiged for the first time and allows them to purchase certain additions such as double XP or an extra perk slot added to your class. All of the game modes return this time around with one new addition titled “Kill Confirmed,” which forces the player to recover the dog tags from the enemies dead body in order to get the reward of the kill.

Modern Warfare 3 will also be the first game for players to utilize the newly announced “Call of Duty: Elite,” which allows players access to monthyl DLC, daily competitions, as well as a number of other features for $49.99 per year.

As usual, this version of Call of Duty will ship on PS3, Xbox 360, PC , Wii and DS with a couple different editions available for purchase. Obviously there will be the standard retail version, as well as the hardened edition. The hardened edition will include the game with exclusive disc art, a year membership to the Call of Duty: Elite program, exclusive in game emblems, player card, weapon camo, an exclusive steel book case and a collectible “field journal.”
