With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launching in a mere 15 days I thought now would be a great time to do a list of 10 reasons why Skyrim is going to be completely awesome. You know, besides the fact that there is no way it can’t be awesome…
-1- A completely brand new engine built from the ground-up for Skyrim, this engine so thoughtfully named Creation by Bethesda is going to bring some of the, if not the most realistic graphics we have ever seen (at least for the PC.) From the In-Game footage and stills we have all seen there is no denying this engine will push the hardware of today to the very limit just as Morrowind and Oblivion both did when they were initially released.
-2- Bethesda has gone and completely redesigned the User Interface, when asked about the new UI look Todd Howard said that he was thinking about how simple and inutitive it is to use Apple products such as the Iphone or Macbook. He said that’s what they had in mind when they redid the UI. With the UI now broken into the four cardinal directions for navigation around the screens I can’t see anyway that this new UI won’t kick the crap out of the clunky console based UI for Oblivion. I mean seriously, checking you abilities by look at the constellations, totally wicked.
-3- Finally Bethesda has answered the calls of their millions of loyal players by giving us crafting. Now the older Elder Scrolls games did include some forms of crafting such as being able to repair your gear and use alchemy, as well as enchanting, which did take a backseat really in Oblivion, but I wouldn’t consider these crafting. We’re talking about REAL crafting, Blacksmithing, Cooking, Mining etc…
-4- Dragon Shouts. Yes I know most of you are now thinking, “really, he is going to split dragon shouts and dragons into two different reasons why Skyrim will be awesome?” And the answer to that is YES. Dragon Shouts are a totally different experience then we’ve ever had in an Elder Scrolls game. The ability to call down huge thunderstorms and stuff is, in my book 100% Kick-Ass!
-5- Dragons. Haha, seriously though, FRICKIN DRAGONS. This has got to be the coolest thing Bethesda has added to an Elder Scrolls game by far. Not only are these dragons going to be completely badass and random, but they’re also the largest creatures we’ll have ever had the privledge of fighting in an Elder Scrolls game to date. Think about it, in Oblivion the biggest monster you actually got to kill was Minotuars. And in Morrowind, what maybe the Ogrems?(don’t quote me on that one.) This will be so awesome, I can’t wait.
