As another year has come to close we, the gamers, have played our fair share of excellent video games this year. Though many of them were incredible, only one can be crowned the G3 2011 GOTY Game of The Year.
The nominees for Overall Game of The Year are.
Gears of War 3
Batman: Arkham City
AND THE MOMENT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
2011 Game of The Year
- The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim –
Wow, what a close battle it was for the top spot this year. Over the last few years there has been a single title that has stood above the rest, making the choice for the Game of The Year quite easy. That was not the case this year with each of the G3 Staff lobbying for a different title — all of which were extraordinary titles. But when the smoke settled and the nerd raging had been eliminated from us all, only one game still stood. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Skyrim may go down as one of the most well rounded titles of all time, or at least of this generation. From the deep leveling system, the fun combat, beautiful graphics, and engrossing story lines, it’s hard to find a single fault in the experience itself. All technical issues aside (I’m looking at you console players) Skyrim is the most bug-free Elder Scrolls game released to date by far.
No matter what system you decide to play Skyrim on, the experience will be the same, that of pure joy. It amazes me the amount of time and effort Bethesda put into making Skyrim one of the deepest, yet easily accessible games I have ever played. Whether you’re a fan of RPG’s or not, you would be kicking yourself for the rest of your life if you didn’t at least give Skyrim a try. A must buy.
- The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword –
Zelda has been apart of my life (like many of you) for as long as I can remember. The newest entry into this legendary series was no different than the ones that preceded it. The story was well done, a beautiful soundtrack, and a newly re-designed Wii-Motion control scheme really helped elevate Skyward Sword towards the best Zelda game of all time.
When it came down to it, Zelda lost by sheer numbers. Nothing more, nothing less. Skyward Sword not being crowned Game of The Year is not a reason to avoid picking it up. Quite to the contrary. If you own a Wii, and are even remotely interested in Action Adventure, Fantasy, Awesome games in general, then I would highly recommend picking this title up.
2011 Honorable Mention(s)
- Gears of War 3 // Uncharted 3 –
Fanboys will be fanboys. The voting for these two was split exactly 50/50. PS3 lovers on one side voted for the amazing cinematic experience that is Uncharted 3, while over at camp 360 they all had to give it up for the brutal, fast paced, multi player driven experience that is Gears of War 3. (Oh yeah, it also has a wicked single player campaign)
Both titles are deserving of a look, although I would recommend playing the first two titles in both series before playing the third entry. (common sense)
From the entire Go! Gaming Giant Staff, thank you for reading and we hope to see you all back here for next year’s awards!
