As if Bethesda hadn’t already solidified themselves as one of the great developers in the business today, now they’ve gone and really done it.
Earlier today Bethesda released the Skyrim Creation Kit, better known as the Construction Set to Elder Scrolls Veterans, as well as two other really awesome goodies. One thing to note though that differentiates this creation kit from its’ predecessors it the fact that it is part of Steam’s new Steam Workshop, which is a “central hub of player-created content and tools to publish, organize, and download that content into your games.”
Now onto the goodies. First, they released an official Texture Pack for Skryim, that’s right folks, no waiting on Quarl to get to work making you a super awesome 4k x 4k texture pack, (well you can) Bethesda has released — along side – the Creation Kit a 3Gb, yes you read that right, 3Gb texture pack for Skyrim. Some may be wondering whether this Texture Pack is really going to improve anything, but come on, at 3Gb’s how could it not improve this already impressive title. Bethesda stated in a press release that we will “Experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as you’ve never seen it before with the Skyrim High-Resolution Texture Pack,” so I take that as a personal guarantee from Bethesda that this Texture Pack is more than just a bit of polish. I personally haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, but as soon as I do I will give you guys my impression of it.
And the second super extra awesome thing that Bethesda released today is a mod to give you your very own “Space Core” from Portal 2. Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring us a mod called “Fall of the Space Core, Vol 1.” I for one am ecstatic to download this mod and play around with it. I always felt that if you combined Skyrim and Portal 2 you would have the perfect game…. Not really, but this seems like a lot of fun, albeit breaking the immersion factor a bit. Another thing that was noticed is that the title of the mod includes “Vol 1″ does that mean that we will be seeing more of these collaboration mods between Valve and Bethesda? Let’s hope so.
