Crytek, the developers’ who brought you Crysis and Crysis 2 are hard at work on an as-of-now unnamed title. In an interview last week at GDC; Crytek’s GM of Games Nick Button-Brown gave CVG a little teaser info on their latest title, stating that it will be announced in April and is “the best of that kind of project we’ve ever done.”
This news came after Crytek had been talking up their Free-To-Play title and their first mobile game.
“There are so many things I can’t talk about,” Button-Brown told CVG, making it obvious that Crytek was still dedicated to making Triple A titles.
“A big part of our business is big budget console and PC games. We are doing all these other things, but they’re on top of that and we’re doing them because they’re interesting.”
“We still want to deliver the highest quality that we can, wherever we go,” he added. “You know about Homefront, you know about Ryse. We are working on another project… [laughs] all three of which are looking really good.”
When Button-Brown was pushed for more details he divulged: “The other project looks absolutely fantastic – I mean, genuinely the best of that kind of project we’ve ever done.
“It looks spectacular, the team are doing really, really well and it’s just really nice to see the team really enthusiastic about what they’re doing. They’re really happy.
“We’re going to carry on doing those games. We like doing mobile games, we like doing free-to-play, but we also like blowing things up in a visually stunning style.”
I’d like to thank CVG for transcribing their interview with Button-Brown for the rest of us to read.
This is definitely interesting information. The first thing that comes to mind is that they’re obviously working on Crysis 3, but then if you really think about it, maybe it’s time for them to take a break from the Crysis series and its’ ‘photo-realistic graphics’ and try to develop a title with an engrossing storyline.
I am a huge fan of both Crysis and Crysis 2. But I feel that change would be good for Crytek as a whole, give them a new challenge to overcome. And maybe I’m coming way out of left field, but possibly something Timesplitters related?
