After initially stating that they had no intentions of altering the ending of the storyline of Mass Effect 3, BioWare has seemingly changed their tune, leaving the possibility of a change open. The Facebook page for Mass Effect posted a statement in an attempt to clarify their position on changing the game. In the statement, it is made clear that though BioWare had previously stated that there would be no changes, “At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending.”
The game, which serves as the conclusion of a massive three-game story, left many fans feeling disappointed and frustrated. Without giving anything away, many fans feel that there is a lack of closure in the ending of the story: a story that has engrossed and captivated fans since the release of the original Mass Effect in 2007.
It is certainly uplifting to hear that BioWare has heard the public outcry and, rather than ignoring it, is at least acknowledging fans’ frustrations. Hopefully a well-crafted, and ideally free, DLC would provide an alternate ending for fans or at least serve as a sort of epilogue for the series. Hopefully we will hear more about this story in the near future.
