end So I just finished Mass Effect 3

Just pretend those Reapers are spoilers, and if you haven't played the game: look away!

Spoilers ahead!

So if you made it past that barrage of Spoiler warnings, then you’ve beaten the game and you’re either outraged or satisfied. To start off, I was disappointed with the ending and I would have loved to see something other than 3 options that are almost all exactly alike. With that in mind, that doesn’t mean I hated Mass Effect 3’s ending. While I was disappointed, I don’t think it’s too outrageous to be left wanting more since this is a series that has occupied about 90+ hours of my life, which was stretched out between about 5 years. I will say, however, that I like the ending I got after all of my work.
The Mass Effect series was astonishing and everything it did was cinematic and touching and it’s exactly what video games should aspire to be. These games had such a big build up and so much anticipation behind them; that it’s almost impossible to make everyone happy. So I can say that I didn’t hate the ending since it ended on a somewhat hopeful note (since my Shepard was a paragon and the “star gazer” epilogue felt like such a good close and a memorial for Shepard) but I can say that there I have some problems with what I would have liked to have seen.
This doesn’t mean I want a new ending from Bioware; I’m just voicing my general thoughts about what could have made the ending a little more personal instead of being so bare. So here are some things that I would have liked to have seen:

1. Ok, the 3 choices we have to an ending could have added in some variation depending on our paragon/renegade alignment. For example, if we made peace between the Quarian and the Geth, I would have liked to have seen the Geth helping the rebuilding process on the Quarian home world (or cleaning up the dead Geth depending on the ending) Or if you successfully cured the genophage; I would have appreciated a clip of Krogan children running around on Tuchanka.
Bottom line: The ending could have benefited from the choices we made and the people we saved/killed.

One hell of a ride, but the ending isn't sitting well with everyone.

2. I would totally be on board with any of the 3 endings if the developers had only included something about Liara’s “time capsule”. It could work and it could also be a nod to the ending of Alien 3 when you hear Ripley’s message as the screen fades to black. It could have worked the same way, either showing a decimated Earth and hearing Shepard’s voice or maybe even having someone giving a brief bio or something. The “time capsule” scene was so touching; I thought they were going to bring it back in some way in an equally satisfying ending. Likewise, it could be used to point out the endurance of organic life, and as his/her words are said; the rebuilding process or the chaos could be shown.

If this scene didn't resonate with you: you might be a Reaper.

3. Why are these the only 3 options? Seriously, considering you’ve had 3 games to shape Shepard into whatever you wanted him to be, do you really think that a paragon Shepard would actually choose to control the Geth like the Illusive man wanted? Honestly, instead of choosing, why not make the ending depend on your actions? Choosing an ending only allows for Shepard to do something completely out of character and that goes against everything that Mass Effect is about. Mass Effect is about narrative, and how good is narrative if you wash away all of your morals at the drop of a hat? It is choice, but a sudden change of character isn’t likely since I assume most fans of the series had a set goal from the start.

What a glorious game we've been given and what a wild ride we've experienced.

Overall, I LOVED Mass Effect 3 and I thought the ending was good and that’s the truth. There were problems, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Mass Effect series is an achievement.

I hope this has brought you closer to understanding why there is such an outcry from us fans. In the end, we simply want an end to this stellar series that makes reasonable sense. We are being very civil in our discontent.
There are many who feel that these endings were rushed or done on purpose to make the ending unforgettable. While the second is a fact to many, it is that only for the reason of making Mass Effect un-replayable for many many fans. If this was any other series or game, we wouldn’t care.
BioWare made the claim that we, the fans, are everything to them.
This movement is there to show that there are many people all over the world
who hold this series to such a high standard, and we would not want
for this series to end on a whimper that it had.
For those that are happy with the endings, we have no bone to pick with you.
We regard your opinions with respect.
And while we understand that this is just a video game and what we are fighting for is trivial, we will make sure all of this energy will have a positive outcome, whether the new endings happen or not. In the end, there will be a lot of happy children in a lot of hospitals who will be playing with new toys by the end of this month.
    Civility, Respect, and Honor.
    That is what we follow.
    Thank you.
