Take everything you’re about to read with a grain of salt. Until it’s confirmed, it’s all just a hoax in my mind. Supposedly earlier today a 56-page document leaked showing the whole five year game plan for Microsoft going forward, including the upcoming launch of the Xbox 720 in 2013. Sadly this document has already been removed by Covington & Burling LLP — so the only information I have to go off, is what other sites already extracted from the documents.
Supposedly the Xbox 720 will launch bundled with a new Kinect Sensor for $299, which is notably cheaper than the launch of the 360, which cost me four bills at that time. Included with the Xbox 720 is a blu-ray drive (surprising when you factor in that Sony owns Blu-Ray) as well as focus on tablet integration.
Some of the other features mentioned include improved Kinect functionality, allowing for up to four players to play at the same time (sounds terrifying), access to all your shizzle via the cloud network, and “not needing to upgrade your hardware ever again”… Whatever that means. But the thing that really peaked my interest was the rumors that the Xbox 720 will features glasses, that when put on will give the player a heads-up display/virtual reality interface. This idea has been dubbed Fortaleza. If they can pull this off, correctly, I will be a day-one purchaser. I think it would be awesome to take the HUD from say, Crysis, and put it in the glasses, so that if you look directly at the TV without them, there’s nothing there but the gun.
It’s all just rumors and speculation at this point. If there’s any updates on this information, you’ll be the first ones to know!
Also for those of you who are wondering. I did do a little bit more digging on this Covington & Burling LLP. After doing some searching around I found out that this is not the first time they’ve stepped in to help Microsoft out of a sticky situation… Interesting, very interesting.
