‘Prototype’ Developer Hit By Mass Layoffs

radical Prototype Developer Hit By Mass Layoffs

In some sad news out of the game development world today, long standing studio Radical Entertainment was hit by massive layoffs throughout the company today. Known in recent years for it’s work on the Prototype series, Radical has unfortunately not been able to find a “broad commercial audience,” and will be laying off most of it’s staff. Their official release reads as follows.

“Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience. Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward.”

There has been no word as of yet on the fate of the Prototype series going forward, other than the news that the PC release of Prototype 2 will release as scheduled next month.

It’s never easy when a dev studio falls victim to our atrocious economy, so we wish the best of luck to anyone who has been affect by this sad news.
