I’m not sure why this is such a big deal to folks. Final Fantasy VII was already available on PC. But, for the sake of relaying the information to you guys, I will fill you in on all of the ‘new’ stuff that will be implemented into this re-release of Final Fantasy VII.
For starters, this news was confirmed when the official website for Final Fantasy VII for PC went live this morning. What this means for me and you, is that we can purchase the re-release from the Square Enix Online Store soon (no word on if it will be hitting Steam or not).
The new version will include three new features;
- Cloud Saves (no pun intended), allowing you to save to an official server of some sort I’m assuming
- A “Character Booster” which will let you max out your characters HP, MP, and Gil if you’re not l33t enough to play the right way
- And 36 New Achievements, with which you can collect and then compare with your friends
Minimum PC specs are also listed. If you want to run the game, you’ll need: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64-bit), a 2GHz Processor or faster, 1GB RAM and a DirectX 9-compatible graphic card.
The official trailer only helps to solidify my fears that this is indeed a straight port of the version that was released on PC many years ago. Sure they’re adding in some unnecessary features to try and get you to buy it (suggested retail is said to be sitting at $12 right now). Count me out of this charade, thank you. If I get the urge to play one of the greatest RPG’s of all time, I’ll just throw the discs in my Playstation and play it. I paid for the game once, I have no plans to do it again unless it’s going to be redone in HD like it deserves.
The trailer doesn’t include a release date, rather telling us “Coming Soon”. If you want to check out some Artwork and Character Profiles, you can do so here at the Official Website.
