Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor has brought his award winning musical chops (Social Network, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. A fan of the Call of Duty franchise, he is no stranger when it comes to providing music for games – having also worked on Doom 3 and Quake for Id Software. Now after teaming up with Treyarch, Reznor has created the theme song for COD: BO II.
I have always looked to that franchise as the cutting edge of what seemingly unlimited budgets and full-on not cutting any corners can do in the current day and age – Trent Reznor/USA Today
Call of Duty: Black Ops II focuses on a new cold-war between China and the U.S., but both sides are being manipulated by an unknown baddie. “There is a lot of reservation and angst and sense of loss and regret and anger bubbling under the surface, So it didn’t make sense to have a gung-ho patriotic feeling kind of theme song. It has to feel weighty”, says Reznor.
With the theme song finished Reznor can re-focus his attention towards his ‘other’ band’s album – How to Destroy Angels, which hes says is almost finished, and he also has upcoming plans for another Nine Inch Nail project – four years after The Slip.
Call of Duty:Black Ops II is scheduled for release on November 13, 2012
