The words ‘movie into game’ or ‘game into movie’ can make even the most tenacious gamer cringe, and then counter-attack into frenzy of reasons and examples as to why that formula rarely works – insert the word Halo (especially coming from a rabid Halo fan), and you better run for cover .
But all analogies aside; that is exactly what is taking place – sort of – however this Halo movie isn’t destined for the silver screen, and technically it’s not even a movie called Halo, rather it’s a Halo 4 series.
‘Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn’ is a live action (that means real people) series coming to Machinima Prime and Halo Waypoint on October 5.
The plot, which ties into the Halo 4 game – focuses on the lives of 18 young cadets during the initial stages of the Covenant war, and centers around the main character Thomas Lasky, a young and struggling cadet leader whom later encounters the Master Chief and becomes inspired by his leading example.
Written by Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing (Sparticus, Entourage), and directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row, Whisper), this full length trailer shows a bit of promise through what looks like genuine, quality acting and the production appears up to date as well.
A 90 minute special edition of ‘Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn’ will follow the October 5 premier on November 6 through video demand, and in the ‘Limited Edition’ of Halo 4.
Could this live-action series be a blue-print for a better way to bring our favorite games to life?
