Remember “The Last Guardian?” Yeah, apparently Sony doesn’t either as the internet was set ablaze with news that Sony had “abandoned” their first party(long time in development), epic “The Last Guardian.”
Well many gamers were the victims of lazy journalism once again, as the real story was pushed aside for the shocking headline “Sony Abandons The Last Guardian!”
What really happened? Well first off, calm down. The Last Guardian is not cancelled, and is still suspected to be in development. Sony simply let their United States patent and trademark expire as it has been three years since they registered the domain in 2009. They can still get back the trademark and patent, and I suspect that they will look to do that soon.
I’ve reached out to Sony for comment, but have yet to hear back from them.
