The third installment in the Final Fantasy XIII series is now official with Square Enix’s official PAX announcement of “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.” There had been rumors swirling that a third entry in the series would happen, but most thought that it would simply be titled “Final Fantasy XIII-3.”
Square Enix says that the game will have “a brand-new story, world, characters and enhanced gameplay system.” The story is set to take place hundred of years after Final Fantasy XIII-2, so we assume that some more time travel will be taking place. The game is slated for a release in 2013 as of right now.
