Kotaku Source Claims PS4 Will Be Out This November

Hmm, interesting turn of events. Apparently a trusted Kotaku source has informed Kotaku that the new PS4, codenamed Orbis, will not only be launching this year (November), but will also be available at (roughly) $429 and $529. The first thing that becomes readily apparent is that there will be at least two models available at launch.

Though the information from the source doesn’t give us much to go on — you’ve got to be feeling that after this bombshell, Sony might as well let the cat entirely out of the bag tomorrow night at their event in New York City. What the source also provided was another screenshot of the new controller, which will be below. Two things instantly stand out to me when I look at this controller. First off, it seems a bit wider than the older Dualshock 3 controllers, and secondly, it appears they have changed the top of the thumb-sticks, to a design similar to that of the Xbox 360.

A few supposed ‘features’ of the PS4 were leaked, such as the system will have a built-in Playstation Eye, (creepy) they will be replacing Playstation Plus with Playstation World, (PS5 it’ll be Playstation Universe fyi..) where most of the features will be locked unless you subscribe, again much like the Xbox.

The one really awesome feature, that I hope makes it into the console, is the information that you will be able to control the system via your smartphone. What this means is ease of use for those who like to talk to friends regularly over their console. Now you can use a phone, and talk to them. No it’s nothing like making a phone call, because you’re using the Playstation.. Duh! Reports also state a support for being able to purchase games and downloads directly on your phone, and they will begin downloading on the console.

Though the source states that the pricing won’t be announced until around E3, if it does hold true that it will be priced at $429 and $529, we all may be able to actually purchase a PS4 before it’s already been on the market for two years.

Sound off in the comments or on our Facebook.. What’s your thoughts on this new PS4 information?

Wow wasn’t expecting a release for this year. Sony must be scared of what Microsoft is doing with the next gen Xbox to launch this soon considering PS3 launched a year after the 360.

I also thought it might be a streaming console like OnLive, but I guess it’s still too early for that to go mainstream.
