Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Willem Dafoe is a pretty darn good actor; he’s charismatic, likeable, relatable… Everything you look for in a leading man for a film that you want to be nominated for an Oscar. What do you do with him as a character for a video game, though? The same thing you would on camera — give him a good script, and let him go to town!

That’s exactly what the fine developers over at Quantic Dream are doing. Now they have not only Ellen Page (playing the lead character, Jodie) but also Willem Dafoe. I just keep getting more and more excited for this title. To add to the excitement, was the announcement that the title will be shipping October 8th in the North America, with other territories to be announced at a later time.

According to Sony, Dafoe will play Nathan Dawkins, “an enigmatic scientist working for a top-secret government division studying paranormal activity. His professional curiosity in Jodie, driven by personal tragedy, is a central theme in Beyond: Two Souls.”

In an announcement released Friday by Quantic Dream, the developers say the relationship between the two will be a crucial part of the game:

Jodie Holmes, a young woman who’s known since birth that she is different from everyone else. She possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to an invisible entity she calls Aiden, and this gift has changed her life forever. Willem Dafoe’s Nathan Dawkins is a government scientist who works with Jodie to analyze her powers to ultimately form a compelling bond and together deliver some of the most unique and powerful scenes yet seen in gaming.
