Children and Violent Games

It seems that governments and parents regularly become fixated on the content of games. They talk about gaming as though it is the corrupter of the youth, the new source of society`s ills. Television and cinema are probably laughing themselves to sleep after being the target of similar complaints for the last thirty years, because the news media has finally found a new target. It is an easy way... more. -

Now, our Famitsu feature is back, though the format is a little different. Instead of lumping everything together, we'll be keeping reviews, news and sales figures in their own separate articles, to give you better coverage. First come the... more. -
Genre by System

This console generation has seen a divergence in style for each platform's exclusive titles. All three home systems have carved out a segment of the market and audience of their own by virtue of this. To revisit elements of my last post, each system's niche could be best compared to movie genres. Last weeks Famitsu quick look was delayed by so much the more observant of you may have noticed that this week’s update is arriving just a day after the last one. I can assure you though that like Japanese trains the magazine arrives on time and it was I, and the editors of Go Gaming Giant that delayed the last article’s posting. Not to worry though because this one is here and ready to go. ... more. -

Another week, another Famitsu. Usually around now I say that this week will be a short one, either because I don't have much time or because there isn't a whole lot to interest me in the issue. All well and good, but somehow it still ends up being 1000 words. Well this week I am going to claim that it's going to be a long one (oh-er) and hope that it ends up being short. The preview section fee... more. -

Again I must start with apologies this week. This time I am not to blame for the late posting though, it is the poor Internet penetration in Japan that is at fault. A quick visit to my girlfriends isolated family home in Shirahama left me with the ability to write but no way to post until my return to Osaka. Only a few things really leapt from Famitsu’s pages this week, one of which was the u... more. -

Okay, no write up this week. The TGS previews have left me drained, and I still have a "Final Thoughts" piece to write for my own blog, and an interview with The Behemoth’s John Baez (producer) and Dan Paladin (artist) to transcribe. So this is my apology for my lack of time this week to write it up. I did have a flick through. There was very little news, focusing mostly on TGS after thoughts... more. -
TGS Preview: Quantum Theory
4 CommentsPosted by Alex Beech on October 2, 2009 under Previews
The parallels between Quantum Theory and Gears of War, are unmistakable. Taking the lead role is a scared space marine in oversized armor. For Quantum Theory’s army however the armor has been made overly intricate with a gothic style that is mirrored through out the world. It isn’t only the visual style Quantum Theory takes it cue from GoW on; gameplay, HUD, even controls are all laughably sim... more.
